allows you to use a car when needed without incurring the fixed costs of ownership. For a reduced $25/year annual membership fee, Harvard affiliates can use Zipcar vehicles when needed (for as little as an hour) and pay based on how much you drive. Low hourly and daily rates include gas and insurance. Most vehicles are hybrids and there is even a pick-up truck for moving large items!
allows Harvard affiliates to find others with similar commuting patterns or one-time travel needs. A social network platform with optional Facebook integration, Zimride is fun to use and helps establish trust among users. Just like with Facebook, Zimriders can view profiles for common networks, interests, and friends before deciding to share a ride. You can even share your Zipcar through Zimride to reduce cost.
RelayRides allows Harvard affiliates to lend and borrow cars from each other. If you own a car, you can lend it out when you're not using it and earn up to $7,000/year. RelayRides provides a $1 MM insurance policy to protect you and the vehicle. If you occasionally need a car, you can borrow one on campus by the hour or by the day from just $5/hr (gas and insurance included). Best of all there are no annual fees, just a one-time $25 application fee, and all new members get $25 of free driving. You can even sign up and drive the same day.
If you have any questions about the program please contact Crosby Benefit Systems at 1-800-462-2235 #6; servicecenter@crosbybenefits.com or Harvard University's CommuterChoice program at 617-384-RIDE; commuterchoice@harvard.edu.
